You’ve been told before how you must understand your niche. They talk about finding your niche as though it’s a mystical experience that only gurus and secret handshakes can reveal.
That’s not it at all. It’s much easier than you expect.
Your niche is the heart of your expertise. It must be intentional and specific. If done well, your niche is the reason why someone would choose to work with YOU over anyone else.
Wouldn’t it be great to have a roadmap to guide you? I happen to have one of those right here. Take these four steps to best determine your niche and how to serve your audience:
Know Your Specialty
What are you an expert in? Consider your industry, your skill set, and your profession. If you don’t know the answer, how do you expect your clients to? You can’t do it all…none of us can. Great places to start are listing your achievements and the most important lessons you’ve learned in life. If it’s hard to single out your skill set, make a list of things you do best and then break down the skills required to do them. You’ll notice patterns of specialty…places where you resonate with your clients.
Know Who You Serve
What is the age, experience, education, family dynamic, and/or mindset of your ideal client? Data from your website, social media, and current clients can tell you this. You know your biz better than anyone else.
Know How You Serve
Are you a service or product-based business? Do you educate your clients or implement strategies? These questions are key aspects to building your niche.
Know the End Results
What do you bring to the table? What solutions do you provide? You solve problems for your clients, and no one does it better than you. List the ways in which that is true.
Here are the four steps in action: Social Media expert (specialty) showing (Who) new entrepreneurs (How) how to plan, launch, and grow their business virtually (Know).
Take the time to think this through. Your Niche is what sets you apart from the pack. Ask the questions and fill out the answers…I mean, do you really want to waste time running down the wrong path? It’s a no-brainer. The best part is that understanding your Niche will guide you to your foundational message…the foundation of your brand. The reason why it feels mystical is because it really is unique to everyone. Only you can determine your niche…only YOU can make it happen.
